Join St. George’s Scholar Institute on Thursday, May 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Noble Funk Brewery for our annual One May Night event in celebration of 59 years of service! For more information and to reserve a free ticket for this event, visit our event page here.

According to an old issue of Episcopal Christ Cathedral Notes, it all started on “one May night” in 1964 when 150 boys broke into the long-closed gymnasium at St. George’s parish house to play ball. The Urban Mission council of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky took that as a sign that there was a need to address particular challenges faced by this community. They began holding Friday night events, and by the time school began in September, up to 600 teenagers were attending and St. George’s was born.

Since then, St. George’s Scholar Institiute has grown into a premier youth development agency, providing quality out-of-school time programming with social, emotional and academic learning for vulnerable youth in the California and surrounding neighborhoods.
